SHORT BUT NOT SO SWEET 09

Feel free to print and pass around as many of these flyers as you like

AHH HOW SWEET IT IS

Despite swine flu, the economic downturn, cold nights and the theatre double booking our tech run, Short But Not So Sweet was another raging success. We played to packed houses almost every night! This is a nice change from when we first started. Defector Art Theatre and Short But Not So Sweet is here to stay!

So lets look at the plays, the awards and why it was such a great night:

Apple

Written by Trevor Suthers

Directed by Carl Whiteside

Adam..... Alexander Moller

Eve..... Jess Wilson

God..... Janeen Sonsie

For as long as 'the story of Adam and Eve' has been around, there have people been taking the piss out of it. This play was no exception. God needed to be seen and heard to be believed and all her hilarity.

A BIT OF SHOCK THERAPY FOR SYDNEY

For the first time ever Defector Art Theatre will be performing outside of Victoria. Defector Art will be performing at the Newtown Theatre in Sydney because it has reached the finals of Short And Sweet there.

The play to be performed will be Frank Otis’s ‘Shock Therapy’. A controversial play that rocked Melbourne audiences when it premiered as part of Boxashorts 2 last year. Who knows what Sydney audiences will make of this anti-torture black comedy!

The play will feature American actor Holly Lynn Nye who is currently touring Australia with a prominent performance show. She has flown thousands of kilometres to be in this play and we are honoured to have her on board.

The play also features Alex Lance who wowed audiences in two very different plays in Boxashorts 3 ‘Alex Brouns gut wrenching play ‘The Celiene Dion Songbook’ and Frank Otis’ thriller ‘9/10ths Of The Law’.

We welcome back Emma Moore who had audiences in fits of laughter and horror when she played the mum of a serial killer family in Otis’ ‘Morals’ which was part of ‘Short And Not So Sweet’ last year.

Wrapping up the cast for ‘Shock Therapy’ is Sam Hill and Frank Otis. This is the first time Sam has played a role with ‘Defector Art’. After an unsuspected pull out Sam has jumped on board and saved the day. To say that we are happy she did would be an understatement. As for Frank Otis well we all know him don’t we.

The play will be performed as part of Week 5 of Short And Sweet at the Newtown Theatre, King Street Newtown. It will run from Tuesday the 10th of February till Saturday 14th of February at 8.15pm, then Sunday 15th of February at 5.15pm.

Actors in Picture from left to right: Holly Lynn Nye, Frank Otis, Alex Lance.

BOXASHORTS 3 GAVE IT’S ALL

Despite the time of the year, bad weather and some behind the scenes dramas Boxashorts 3 continued the success of the Boxashorts name.
Audiences raved about the quality of the production. Alex Broun from ‘Short And Sweet’ said it was the best Defector Art Theatre production he had seen. Although carrying a theme, this time ‘female leads’ there was heaps of variety. Comedy, drama and horror all left there mark on the Cromwell Road Theatre stage.

Next year Boxashorts will be back where it belongs as part of the ‘Fringe Festival’.

Actors in picture from left to right: Georgia Beasley, Claudia Greenstone, Holly Lynn Nye, Brad Schmidt, Frank Otis, Christine Husband, Alex Lance, Kate O’Neill, Marijana Kreso and Myles Tankle.
